What is BodyTite?

BodyTite is a minimally invasive skin tightening surgery that uses radiofrequency technology to tone loose skin. It is often paired with Liposuction to enhance the final results, creating a toned and contoured silhouette. BodyTite can be used on all areas of the body below the neck and is suited to patients who have minor loose skin or who want to enhance the appearance of muscle tone following fat removal or procedures such as Abdominal Etching.

Radiofrequency skin tightening is often used to tighten skin in areas including:

  • Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Breasts

BodyTite is especially beneficial in areas where the skin is thinner and more prone to sagging, such as:

The BodyTite procedure involves making a small incision in the treatment areas and inserting a radiofrequency probe. The radiofrequency energy produces heat, which targets the lower layer of the skin, called the dermis. The heat causes controlled injury within the skin, stimulating the body’s healing process. This includes the production of collagen and elastin, which strengthens and tightens the skin. As the trauma is regulated, the healing process resolves the injury and results in further regenerative improvements in the skin.  The skin’s collagen and elastin production naturally slows down as we age. RF skin tightening increases the collagen and elastin in the skin.

Cadogan Clinic has brought together a team of the UK’s leading consultant plastic surgeons who prioritise patient safety and outcomes. Does Radiofrequency Melt Fat?

Surgical skin tightening procedures such as BodyTite do not break down unwanted fat. For patients who are concerned about stubborn fat deposits, RF skin tightening is often performed alongside Liposuction.

Combining RF skin tightening and Liposuction enhances the final result, creating a streamlined body contour and helping the skin to rebound effectively. For procedures such as Abdominal Etching, this allows the muscle definition to show clearly maximising the procedure results. Body skin tightening surgery can also further enhance the skin-strengthening effects of Liposuction techniques such as Vaser Liposuction or Smart Lipo.

Although radiofrequency surgical skin tightening doesn't remove unwanted fat from the body, it does tone the skin, improving the contours of the body.

BodyTite Before and After

During your consultation to discuss surgical skin tightening, your surgeon will show you a selection of BodyTite before and after images. These will show you the results that you can expect from your procedure and how BodyTite could address your concerns.

BodyTite before and after photos are key when considering any cosmetic procedure:

  • Before and after photos show the results of a BodyTite procedure
  • They show your surgeon's experience and the consistency of their results
  • Comprehensive BodyTite before and after photos will show the recovery process, as well as the placement of the incisions and scarring

Your surgeon will show you the photos of their previous body skin tightening patients who are most comparable to you, with similar concerns and desired results. This will give you the best point of reference to make your final decision about having a BodyTite procedure.

Why Do People Have BodyTite?

RF skin tightening can be carried out as a standalone surgery but is more commonly combined with complementary body contouring procedures such as Liposuction.

There are several reasons patients may choose radiofrequency skin tightening:

  • Reduce minor skin sagging – For patients with small amounts of loose skin due to ageing or slight weight loss, RF skin tightening effectively tones and contours the skin
  • Prevent unwanted skin laxity following Liposuction - Liposuction can lead to some unwanted skin sagging, especially in areas where the skin is stretchier, such as the upper arms or inner thighs, as the skin cannot rebound as effectively. Performing BodyTite alongside Liposuction will help the skin to tighten, amplifying the outcomes of the procedure
  • Enhancing the results of Body Contouring surgery – The results of procedures such as Arm Lift, Thigh Lift, Tummy Tuck or Excess Skin Removal can be maximised with body skin tightening to define muscular contour and tone the skin

During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss your reasons for considering radiofrequency skin tightening to ensure it is the most suitable procedure to address your concerns effectively.

Who is Suitable for BodyTite?

Your consultant will assess your suitability for a BodyTite procedure during your initial consultation. The appointment will start with a discussion about your concerns, reasons for considering BodyTite, and your desired results. Your surgeon will then examine the areas you wish to address and will talk you through the best procedure options for your surgical plan. They will also assess your general physical and mental health to ensure you are fit and well for a general anaesthetic procedure.

Your consultant will consider several factors when determining your suitability for body skin tightening surgery:

  • Your concerns – BodyTite is suitable for patients who are concerned about small amounts of loose skin, or who wish to enhance the results of other procedures
  • Your desired results – It is important to have realistic expectations of the results radiofrequency skin tightening could achieve. Your surgeon will ensure you understand this during your consultation
  • Your weight – BodyTite and associated surgeries are not weight-loss procedures. You should have maintained your ideal weight for 6-12 months ahead of your surgery, with a BMI of less than 30
  • Your general health – Your surgeon will take into account any existing physical or mental conditions that you have when deciding if you in suitable health for a general anaesthetic surgery

If your surgeon decides you are a suitable candidate for radiofrequency skin tightening, they will send your plan to your patient advisor, who will contact you to discuss your procedure, the final quotation, and surgery dates. You will have a mandatory two-week cooling-off period to make your final decision about your surgery and to discuss any questions with your patient advisor. You will also be able to arrange a second consultation with your surgeon ahead of your procedure.

What are the Benefits of BodyTite Surgery?

RF skin tightening is a simple procedure which can have a transformative effect for many patients. The primary benefits of surgical skin tightening at Cadogan Clinic include:

  • Tightened and toned skin – For patients with slight skin laxity due to ageing, BodyTite is an effective procedure for improving the tone and elasticity of the skin.
  • Enhanced surgical outcomes – Radiofrequency body skin tightening widely complements other body contouring procedures. This optimises results, allowing patients to get the most out of their surgery.
  • Improved body proportions – Even small amounts of loose skin can impact the balance and proportions of the body. BodyTite restores a natural-looking balance to the body by tightening and toning excess skin.
  • Minimally invasive procedure – BodyTite surgery is minimally invasive, involving small incisions and a short recovery time. The benefits more than surpass the input required for the surgery.
  • Natural, long-lasting results – Our cosmetic surgery team is consultant-led, and our surgeons give precedence to patient safety and surgical results at every stage of their surgical journey. This includes achieving flattering results meeting each patient's needs for many years following their surgery.
  • Expert surgical providers – Cadogan Clinic has been awarded an overall rating of Good by the CQC, with our leadership rated Outstanding. Our leading surgical facility has been providing excellent surgical results for over 20 years.

Words From Our Founder

Mr. Bryan Mayou

Since I introduced Liposuction to the UK over forty years ago, it has been gratifying to see complementary procedures introduced to further enhance patient outcomes. Although BodyTite is a clinically low-impact procedure, the outcomes are transformative for many patients and allow them to derive even more satisfaction from their results.
Mr. Bryan Mayou

Frequently Asked Questions

The skin’s laxity increases naturally as we age due to decreased collagen and elastin. Because of this, radiofrequency skin tightening procedures are not completely permanent. However, it will pause and delay the ageing process by tightening and strengthening the skin and patients who maintain their weight following surgery will see positive results for many years.

BodyTite and Morpheus8 both use radiofrequency technology to tighten the skin. Morpheus8 is a non-surgical procedure combining radiofrequency and microneedling to stimulate collagen and elastin production, which can be used across the face and body. BodyTite is minimally invasive but is carried out under general anaesthetic and involves small incisions to allow access to the deeper layers of the skin.

BodyTite is a highly effective treatment option for abdominal skin tightening in patients with slight skin laxity. However, BodyTite is a surgical procedure requiring a general anaesthetic. Abdominal skin tightening as part of a Non-Surgical Tummy Tuck can be performed using Morpheus8 or similar techniques, but the results may not be as dramatic.

BodyTite may not be sufficient to fully tighten the skin for patients left with loose skin following massive weight loss. Patients who are considering excess skin removal may benefit from Post Weight Loss Body Contouring, which involves excising the loose and hanging skin to remove it altogether. Radiofrequency body skin tightening surgery can be performed alongside Body Contouring following dramatic weight loss to tone and strengthen the skin, enhancing the final result.

The Risks of BodyTite Surgery

Your surgeon will assess your personal risk during your BodyTiteconsultation and may ask you to prepare in a certain way to ensure the best results possible. All cosmetic procedures carry some risk and it is important to understand this ahead of making a final decision about your surgery.

Some of the complications your surgeon will make you aware of include:

  • Hematoma - This is the build-up of blood beneath the skin and will require treatment from your surgeon
  • Poor wound healing - Healing complications or infection can affect the incision sites
  • Asymmetry - Occasionally, one side of your body may appear a different size or shape to the other following Body Lift. This may be a temporary part of the healing process or may be longer-term
  • Seroma - This is the formation of a lump under the skin caused by build up of fluid around the incision sites. This will require treatment from your surgeon.
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Allergic reaction to general anaesthetic
  • Infection at the surgical site
  • Deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in a vein)

Our award-winning team have been performing radiofrequency body skin tightening surgery for many years, and have performed countless successful procedures. We always put the safety of our patients first, and will only accept suitable cases who meet our suitability criteria. As one of the UK's and the world's leading surgical clinics, we take our responsibility to our patients very seriously.
