What is a Hair Transplant?

A Hair Transplant is a surgical procedure which increases the thickness of the hair on the head. This addresses the common concerns for men of hair thinning or a receding hairline which can cause a loss in confidence or make men feel they look older than they are.

Hair Transplant involves redistributing the existing hair follicles from areas where the hair is thicker to areas where thinning is apparent. Depending on the patient’s concerns and desired results, either individual hair follicles can be transplanted, or a larger strip of hair to address larger areas of thinning.

Hair Transplant cost can vary between different providers and surgeons and is an important consideration when looking into Hair Transplant packages in the UK.

What Affects the Cost of Hair Transplant in the UK?

The cost of Hair Transplant varies across different providers. Understanding the differences in price is important as it will help you to choose the right provider for you depending on your concerns, desired results and what you’re looking for from your surgical care.

Some important factors which influence Hair Transplant cost are:

The consultant carrying out your Hair Transplant

Hair Transplants are usually carried out by specialist Hair Transplant consultants, however, the level of experience they have will play a part in dictating their prices. Surgeons who have performed a higher number of Hair Transplants will have more consistent and often better-quality results, than surgeons who are establishing themselves.

Some Hair Transplant consultants also have a team of technicians who assist with the procedure. This may increase the cost of the surgery, but can also reduce the amount of time the procedure takes, improving recovery and patient comfort.

Cadogan Clinic works with over 100 consultants, each being a specialist in their own field of care. We make sure that each consultant has extensive experience in their specialist surgeries and that they are producing consistent results to achieve the best patient outcomes possible.

Hair Transplant clinic location

Clinics based in large cities such as London, are more likely to have access to a wider range of experienced and specialist surgeons and clinic staff. Having a large range of surgeons with high levels of experience may raise Hair Transplant prices.

Business overheads tend to be higher in large cities, which can also lead to higher prices Hair Transplant prices. This is often because clinics in large cities are able to attract specialist, permanent staff who can offer the highest levels of care. However, the cost of living and wages are also higher.

It is important to remember that clinics outside of large cities are able to deliver excellent surgical results, but looking at a range of different providers is necessary. Ensure you understand your surgeon’s experience to ensure you receive the best quality surgery – they should be happy to discuss this further during your consultation.

Our clinic in Chelsea, London is a dedicated hospital providing consultation space, surgical theatres and aftercare services for all of our patients.

Safety and patient outcomes data

When considering Hair Transplant procedures, make sure you read the clinic’s safety and patient outcomes data. This will give you an indication of the level of care the clinic is able to provide.

Key points to look at include:

  • Surgical infection rates
  • Revision rates for surgical procedures and their revisions policy
  • Patient outcomes data showing how many patients were satisfied with the service and results
  • Any reports published by regulators such as the Care Quality Commission (England), Healthcare Improvement Scotland, and Care Inspectorate Wales

By investing time and money into high standards of care such as keeping infection and revision rates low, these clinics’ prices may be higher. Safety factors which influence the price of surgeries include having a higher clinical staff to patient ratio within theatre and in aftercare, having dedicated, specialist staff, and providing extra safety training and qualifications to their staff as standard.

Cadogan Clinic provides the highest possible patient safety at all levels. At our hospital, we carry out over 30,000 appointments a year. Our revision rate is 2.4%, with the average being 10%; and our infection rate is 0.2% with the national average being 4.7%. All of our staff receive training annually to maintain these results and ensure everyone understands how they play their part in patient care and safety.

Research and surgical innovation

Being actively involved in research, education and the ongoing development of surgical techniques may mean some clinics and surgeons have higher costs than other providers. These innovations put providers at the forefront of patient safety and the development of new surgical techniques allows for the continuation of high-quality surgical outcomes.

Cadogan Clinic and our surgeons have published many research papers and are involved in the development of surgical techniques and safety including Liposuction, Fat Transfer and Brazilian Butt Lift. We host specialist training sessions for surgeons who wish to perform these surgeries and want to access high-quality education and information from the innovators of these methods.

We were also one of the first clinics in the UK to use Total Intravenous Anaesthesia (TIVA) for all surgical procedures, and this was the basis of us being the UK’s largest private surgical day case centre. This has improved surgical outcomes and results and provides faster recovery for our patients. We have continued this by pioneering the use of sedation for many procedures which continues the results of faster recovery and better surgical outcomes.

Why Should You Choose to Have Hair Transplant in the UK?

Hair Transplant is a very popular procedure to have outside of the UK, often due to the low prices available. However, we have always advised against this approach, as it is not always possible to verify the level of care you may receive. Unfortunately, for some people, this can cause significant problems such as infection or unsatisfactory results.

Clinics outside the UK often don’t have a dedicated aftercare team, meaning once you have been discharged, it is challenging to speak to anyone at the clinic directly about any concerns or questions you may have. Cadogan Clinic has a dedicated team of cosmetic nurses who are available by phone 24/7 after your procedure to offer any help you may need and ensure you get the right medical attention if it is necessary.

It is also not always possible to verify a surgeon’s experience or qualifications when looking at surgery outside of the UK. This means you may not be aware of any concerns that have been raised about this provider. All surgeons who qualified in the UK will be registered with the GMC (General Medical Council). This allows you to see the history and qualifications of your surgeon and be sure that they have the necessary credentials.

If complications occur following surgery in another country, it can be very difficult to make a complaint or speak to a regulatory body. Healthcare is managed differently in every country, and unless you have a full understanding of how that country’s healthcare system operates you may not be able to follow the process to ensure the surgeon or clinic responsible is held accountable.

Seeking surgery in the UK from a reputable provider is the best way to ensure your surgery is safe and successful, and that if you do have any concerns they are addressed effectively.
