How Does Weight Loss Affect the Face?

Any method of weight loss, including medication such as Ozempic or Bariatric Surgery, can affect the appearance of the face.

Facial changes with weight loss can include:

Jowls – Sagging skin which softens the jawline and creates folds of skin around the lower portion of the face
Sunken cheeks – Depleted fat pads in the cheeks can lead to loss of skin tone around the cheeks, causing a gaunt, sagging appearance
Double chin – Excess skin and decreased volume around the chin can lead to a loss of definition and the appearance of a double chin
Loose neck skin – The skin around the neck in thinner and more fragile. Loose skin on the neck can create a sagging appearance and loss of elegant neck contours

What is Ozempic Face?

Weight loss drug Ozempic, and similar medications such as Wegovy may cause weight loss faster than some other methods. This can lead to a phenomenon known as Wegovy Face or Ozempic Face which is characterised by a sunken, gaunt appearance to the face with loss of skin tone. If you are using weight loss medication, and are concerned about Ozempic facial ageing, speak to your doctor as they may be able to adjust your dosage to slow the progress of the weight loss.

Similarly, Bariatric Surgery is typically associated with dramatic weight loss. Large amounts of weight loss are more likely to cause unwanted cosmetic side effects, which you may want to address with post-bariatric weight loss surgery.

The Risks of Post Weight Loss Face Surgery
