What is Dermal Filler Dissolving?

Dermal Fillers are a non-surgical treatment, which restore volume and lift sagging skin in areas such as the lips, nose and jawline. They can be used on the face and the body, and many people choose filler over surgery as they are not permanent. Dermal Fillers can be dissolved if your preferences change over time before they have fully broken down naturally, or if you suffer any complications.

Filler is usually dissolved using an enzyme called Hyaluronidase, or Hyalase for short. This is injected into the areas containing unwanted Dermal Filler and breaks down the Hyaluronic Acid. This returns the area to how it looked before any filler was injected.

If you are concerned you are experiencing complications following any Dermal Filler treatment, contact the doctor who carried out your procedure straight away.

How Long Does It Take for Filler to Dissolve?

Dermal Filler naturally breaks down in the body within 18 months. This means that if you wish to maintain the results of your Filler you will need to attend follow up appointments for top up treatments.

If Hyalase has been injected to break down the Filler in any area, it is usually removed within 24 hours. You will notice a reduction in volume and the natural shape of the area return within a couple of days after the filler dissolver has been injected.

The Cost of Dissolving Filler

Prices for Dissolving Filler may vary depending on the areas that are being injected, and the amount of filler to be dissolved.

Words from our clients:

Benefits of Dissolving Dermal Filler

Dermal Filler can be dissolved for a number of reasons and is often a highly beneficial procedure.

  • Resolve complications – Although complications such as vascular occlusion, following Dermal Filler are rare, they can occur even when the treatment is carried out by an experienced and qualified medical professional. Filler dissolver can rectify these problems quickly and effectively when carried out in a timely manner when complications arise.
  • Shape and volume changes – If you have decided that you would prefer a change in shape or volume, Hyalase can be used to reverse the effects of the Filler. This then allows you to either have further Dermal Filler injections or leave the area without any Filler.
  • Restore natural appearance – Recently a number of people have spoken in the media about dissolving their filler and returning to a more natural appearance. One of the most popular options has been dissolving Lip Filler.

Not everyone who has Dermal Filler will require it to be dissolved at any point. However, your consultant will discuss the benefits of dissolving Dermal Filler in your initial consultation. They will also make sure you understand the signs of any complications and what you need to do to make sure it is resolved.

Which Conditions Can Dermal Filler Dissolver Treat?

As we’ve already discussed, dissolving Filler has a number of benefits, but there are also specific conditions that Hyalase injections can treat.

Vascular Occlusion

Vascular Occlusion is a rare complication of Dermal Filler injections. It involves the Dermal Filler being injected into a blood vessel, preventing the blood from flowing through as it is supposed to. This causes dramatic swelling and a heavily bruised appearance. Hyalase is used to break down the filler in the blood vessel and the surrounding area to remove the blockage and allow the blood to flow again.

If you suspect you are suffering from Vascular Occlusion, you must seek advice from a medical professional as quickly as possible. When left, Vascular Occlusion can lead to necrosis and loss off tissue.

Migration

When too much Dermal Filler is injected into an area, either over time or in one session, it can move from the intended treatment area, into surrounding tissue. Known as Migration, this can happen to filler in any area, but is most common around the lips and often leads to patients dissolving their lip filler.

Often the filler in the whole area will need to be dissolved to be reinjected at a later date, in order to prevent the Migration from reoccurring. If too much Dermal Filler is injected again in future treatments, Migration can happen again.

Tyndall Effect

Where Dermal Filler has been injected into very thin areas of skin, such as under the eyes (known as Tear Trough Filler) it can leave a blue cast – known as the Tyndall Effect. This may exacerbate the appearance of dark circles, rather than treating them as many people are hoping for.

By dissolving the Dermal Filler, this removes the blue appearance under the skin and restores the skin’s natural appearance and colour.
