Recovery Focused Surgeries

Your surgeon will first discuss your aftercare and recovery plan with you at your initial consultation, and you will be given clear instructions how best to prepare for your recovery in the run up to your surgery. This may include making sure you have a selection of clothing that is easy to get in and out of, such as tops that button up at the front, and organising any childcare or support around the house you may need.

A straightforward and easy recovery is prioritised during your surgery. All surgeries at Cadogan Clinic are carried out as day case procedures, meaning you will go home the same day, with no overnight stay. This is possible through our use of the anaesthetic, TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia) which involves a very light, controlled sedation that reduces post-operative nausea and sickness and allows for a quick initial recovery. We were one of the first hospitals in the UK to use this technique 20 years ago and it has enabled excellent patient outcomes and recoveries ever since.

Being able to go home the same day as your procedure is key to our recovery and aftercare philosophy. Being able to recover in the comfort of your own home reduces infection risk and patient anxiety levels, making your surgical journey as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Our data-led approach is proven in our numbers: Cadogan Clinic’s infection rate is less than 1% per year, with the national average being 4.7% annually.  

Your Aftercare Timeline at Cadogan Clinic

Every step of the surgical journey at Cadogan Clinic is focused on achieving your desired results, with your comprehensive recovery programme beginning its next phase as soon as your procedure finishes.

Straight After Your Surgery

Straight after your surgery, you will be taken to our Recovery and Ambulatory wards. Here you will have your own room and our Recovery and Ambulatory nurses will make sure you are comfortable and prepare you to be discharged.

They will explain your initial aftercare, including how to look after your dressings, what activities you need to avoid and any medication you need to take. They will also show you how to look after your compression garments, which are included in your surgical package, to aid your healing and prevent swelling. Once you leave the clinic, our nurses are available 24/7 to help you with any questions or concerns.

If you have travelled to come to Cadogan Clinic for surgery, you might want to consider staying in a local 5-star hotel to begin your recovery with a little bit of luxury. If you are looking for additional medical support during your recovery, we are also proud to partner with Loveday and Co. to offer post-surgery respite in a number of their luxury residences near to Cadogan Clinic. Here your meals will be provided along with a range of cultural activities to keep you occupied while you heal. 

The Day After Your Surgery

The day after your procedure, one of our specialist nurses will call you to see how you’re feeling and answer any questions you might have.

You will have been sent home with a bespoke pain relief programme to make sure you are comfortable and pain free. You will be able to call our nurses at any time if you have any questions or concerns. 

One Week After Your Surgery

One week after your procedure, you will return to the Cadogan Clinic to see one of our specialist Dressings nurses. They will assess your incisions and remove any sutures. You will be able to ask any questions and they will explain the next steps of your aftercare. 

Six Weeks After Your Surgery

You will meet with your surgeon six weeks following your procedure. They will discuss your results and recovery and will want to know how you’re feeling and whether you are happy with how everything went.

In 2023, Cadogan Clinic was excited to launch a partnership with the London Regenerative Clinic at the Corinthia Hotel. The specialist team based here have a range of state-of-the-art treatments to aid your healing and recovery, ranging from lymphatic massages to hyperbaric chambers. 

… And Beyond

Your surgical journey (and recovery) doesn’t end at 6 weeks. Depending on the procedure you’ve had, your surgeon may ask you to come in for another follow up appointment.

You have access to our post-operative nurses for up to 2 years following your procedure to answer any questions and your dedicated surgical patient advisor will also be on hand if you have any questions or concerns.
